Ahead of Your Travels

Before you step into paradise, there are just two important details to handle for a smooth entry into Bali: your Customs Declaration and your Visa on Arrival (VOA). Both are simple, but knowing what to expect will save you time and stress at the airport.

  • Complete Your Customs Declaration: There is only one option for completing your customs form upon arriving in Bali. You must do it electronically. At the end of the form you will receive a QR code. Take a screenshot of this and you will scan it at the customs line.
  • Get Your Visa On Arrival (VOA):  You can get your Visa On Arrival at the airport. Or, you can apply online and receive your visa early. Either way, the cost of the visa is about $35. Online, you can pay with a card only. At the airport, you can pay with a card, or (USD or IDR) cash.

The Cooks

Meet Your  Hosts

I’m Amirah (Uh-Meer-Uh) Cook, and I can’t wait to welcome you to Bali, a place that holds so much beauty, peace, and inspiration. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel it—the energy, the warmth, the excitement of stepping into a space where you don’t have to worry about a thing.

I’ve always loved taking care of people, making them feel special, and curating experiences that feel like a deep breath of fresh air. That’s exactly what this retreat is—a chance for you to pause, recharge, and indulge in luxurious self-care.

Bali is one of my favorite places in the world, and I’m so excited to share it with you. You’ll experience all of my favorite spots, the best of Bali’s culture, and the kind of moments that make you feel fully alive and completely at peace at the same time.

My husband, Jarrell Cook, serves as our personal “secret service” throughout the trip, ensuring that everything runs seamlessly. Alongside an incredible team of guides, drivers, photographers, chefs, and villa staff, we take care of everything—so you don’t have to think about anything.

This is your time to let go, be present, and enjoy a week of pure, effortless luxury. We’ve got everything covered—you just show up and experience the magic of Bali.

Get ready for an unforgettable journey—I can’t wait to see you there!

Important Travel Memos:

International travel comes with important requirements that can impact your trip. To ensure a smooth journey, we’ve put together key travel reminders about passport validity, visa requirements, and layovers. Review the details below to avoid any last-minute surprises and ensure you're fully prepared for your retreat.

  • Passport Validity:
To fly internationally, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.
  • If you are attending the Breakthrough Breakthrough Retreat in 2025, your passport cannot expire before April 2026. This is a strict requirement, and airlines will not allow you to board your flight if your passport does not meet this standard.
  • Layover Visa Requirements:
Be sure to research visa requirements for any countries where you have a layover. Some destinations require a transit or tourist visa, even if you are only passing through. For example, Australia may require a visa for layovers, which is typically a quick and inexpensive process, but it must be arranged in advance to avoid any issues at the airport. Check visa requirements here.
  • Need Assistance?
If you have any questions about your flight, layovers, or travel documents, we are happy to help. Reach out to ensure you are fully prepared for a smooth and stress-free journey.

I pride myself on being the ultimate hostess, thinking of everything so you don’t have to. If you ever have a question, request, or concern about the trip, just email me—I’m always happy to help. Your only job is to show up and enjoy the experience you deserve.

FREE DAY

Your Choice with Our Help to Plan

This is your time to do as you please—relax, explore, or indulge in something special. We’ll provide you with curated activity suggestions and are happy to assist with any necessary arrangements or reservations to make your free day exactly what you envision.

Arriving Early or Staying Later?

If you’d like to extend your time in Bali by arriving early or staying after the retreat, I highly recommend booking a hotel over an Airbnb for a smoother check-in experience. Hotels offer more convenience, especially after a long international flight, and ensure a hassle-free start to your trip.

If you arrive before the retreat begins, I can still arrange your airport pickup and transfer to your hotel, as well as a private car to bring you to the retreat when it starts. Please note that this will incur an additional cost, which will be billed at the end of the retreat.

Below are my recommended places to stay if you’d like to add extra time in Bali!

The Anvaya Beach Resort Bali - Close to airport, beach access, reasonable price

Intercontinental Bali Resort - Huge resort, beautiful grounds, beach access

Hyatt Regency Bali - Closer to the Bali Breakthrough Retreat villa, beach access

The Mulia Resort - The furthest ride, but a beautiful, huge resort property

BALI BREAKTHROUGH RETREAT

Flight Tips + Tricks from

Amirah J. Cook

Watch this short video for a tutorial on using all my travel tips and tricks outlined in the downloadable Flight Guide (available below).

Downloadable Guides

The Flight Guide

If you’ve already booked your flight, great! Send me your details when you get a chance. If you haven’t yet, no worries—there’s still plenty of time! I actually recommend waiting until about 90 days before departure to book unless you find an incredible deal.

Bali’s only international airport is Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), but occasionally, flights to Jakarta (CGK)are more affordable. If you choose this route, you can book a short domestic flight from Jakarta to Bali.

In the downloadable flight guide, I’ve included my best travel hacks, favorite flight search websites, and expert planning tips to help you find the best deal.

If you're interested in purchasing your flight with credit card points, I recommend using point.me - it is a service I use to search for flights based on points, rather than dollars.

  • When booking your flight, double-check your arrival day and time to ensure a seamless start to the retreat. You should arrive no later than your check-in day, but for the best experience, I highly recommend arriving on Saturday—the day before the retreat begins. This extra time allows you to settle in, adjust to the time zone, and start the retreat feeling refreshed and ready.
  • Check-in begins at 2 PM. If you choose to arrive on Sunday (the start of the retreat) look for flights that arrive in Bali at noon or later.
  • If you have any questions about booking your flight, don’t hesitate to email me. We can even schedule a call to go over your options and ensure you feel 100% confident in your choice!

Packing Guide

I know the temptation to pack your entire closet is real, but let me help you save space and avoid unnecessary luggage fees with a guide to what you’ll actually need. In this downloadable packing guide, you’ll find a loose itinerary and a detailed packing list to make sure you’re fully prepared.

A few things to keep in mind when planning your outfits for Bali:

  • It’s hot! Bali’s tropical heat calls for breathable fabrics, lightweight outfits, and summer-ready looks. If you need to shop once you arrive, don’t worry—there will be plenty of opportunities to pick up anything you forgot.
  • Poolside perfection. Our private villa has a gorgeous swimming pool, so pack all the swimwear, cover-ups, and lounge looks you’ll want to enjoy during your downtime.
  • Comfort is key. Bali’s sidewalks can be unpredictable, so on walking days, you’ll need comfortable shoes or sandals that you’re ready to walk up to one mile in throughout the day. While we won’t do all the walking at once, it adds up over time.
  • Final night, all white. On our last evening together, we’re hosting an All White Party with a professional photographer to capture the memories. Come dressed to impress in your best all-white look!

Bali Prep Guide

This guide will help you prepare for your trip with all the essential information you need before arriving in Bali.

Inside, you’ll find details on:

  • Vaccines & Health Requirements – Stay up to date with the latest Covid-19 regulations and recommended vaccinations.
  • Visa Information – What you need to know before arrival to ensure a smooth entry into Bali.
  • Traveling Beyond Bali – Important details if you plan to visit other destinations before or after the retreat.
  • Extending Your Stay – Recommended hotels for early arrivals or extended stays, plus key logistics.

Apps to Download

My job as your guide is to make sure you arrive in Bali fully prepared and ready to enjoy your trip. To help with that, I’ve put together a list of must-have apps to make your experience seamless.

In addition to suggested apps, I will guide you through all the must complete steps before your arrival closer to the retreat.

  • Staying connected with family and friendsWhether through messaging, video calls, or social updates, these apps will help you keep in touch while abroad.
  • Easily converting currency on the go Avoid the hassle of mental math and always know exactly how much you’re spending in your home currency.
  • Ordering food and groceries straight to the villaBali’s version of Uber Eats allows you to conveniently order meals, snacks, or even essentials delivered right to your door.
  • Booking rides like UberWhile all retreat transportation is arranged for you, if you plan to explore during your free day or extend your stay before or after the retreat, having a reliable ride-hailing app will make getting around effortless.

Budgeting

Planning for Extras – Optional Add-Ons & Activities

While the retreat covers an incredible range of experiences, you may want to indulge in additional spa treatments or explore extra activities on your free day. These optional add-ons are at your own expense, giving you the flexibility to customize your experience. I’ll provide a Free Day Activities Guide with recommendations and pricing so you can plan ahead and make the most of your time in Bali.

Visa on Arrival (VOA)

When you arrive in Indonesia, you’ll need to purchase a Visa on Arrival, which costs approximately $35 USD. You can pay for this in US dollars, Indonesian Rupiah, or with a credit or debit card. Be sure to have your payment method ready to make the process smooth and efficient upon landing.

Meal Costs

Each day, we’ll visit some of my favorite restaurants in Bali for lunch and some dinners. While this meal is not included in the retreat cost, it remains an affordable and flexible part of your trip. Meals typically range from $10–$20 per meal, meaning $100 is enough to cover your lunches for the entire retreat. If you plan to enjoy cocktails with your meals, budgeting around $150 will allow for extra indulgence. Whether you want to keep it simple or treat yourself, Bali offers incredible dining options to fit any budget.

Shopping

Shopping is where you’ll likely spend the most money—trust me, everyone thinks they won’t shop much until they see what the markets have to offer. From handcrafted goods to unique Balinese souvenirs, there’s something for everyone. The most popular items range from $3 to $20, making it easy to bring home meaningful keepsakes without breaking the bank. Whether you’re picking up small treasures or splurging on something special, it’s always a good idea to budget a little extra for shopping.

Extra Activities + Tips

If you’d like to treat yourself to additional spa treatments or experience more of Bali on your free day, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so. These additional activities are optional and at your own expense. I will provide a Free Day Activities Guide with recommended experiences and their associated costs, so you can plan ahead and choose what fits your interests and budget.

Throughout your trip, you’ll be taken care of by an incredible team, including drivers, chefs, cleaners, photographers, and more. Their dedication ensures a seamless and enjoyable experience for you. While tipping is not mandatory, it is greatly appreciated. Plan to tip each team member between $5–$20 as a gesture of gratitude for their exceptional service.
